    Workshop session: "How your business can simultaneously deliver the right human thing, and the smart commercial thing"

    In business, the right thing to do is usually thought of as being the wrong commercial thing to do.

    We all know that universality/inclusivity, environmental initiatives, and engaging marginalised consumers, is something businesses should do more of, but the stumbling block to action is that they do not deliver revenue or profit growth or make sustained business sense. 

    In fact, they are perceived as detrimental to the bottom line, and at the end of the day, regardless of noble intent, businesses have to make money to survive.

    This means inclusivity efforts, work to engage marginalised customers and eco-initiatives are rejected, sidelined, or seen purely as short-term, PR exercises.

    But it doesn’t have to be like this. 

    Forward-thinking cross-functional teams are discovering ways to drive initiatives that do the ‘right thing’, whilst also growing brands, driving sales, increasing revenues, and even reducing costs - all of which result in higher profits.

    In this presentation Steve shares ideas, and experience of the commercial opportunities the ‘right thing’ presents. He will also outline how cross-functional teams from HR, Finance, logistics, sales and marketing - together deliver the step change in thinking and delivery necessary.

    He provides examples from work with global FMCGs, challenger and smart ups, actionable insights and hard data that will empower you, your teams and your business to do the right/smart thing. 

    About the speaker:

    Steven McGinnes is a highly experienced and respected global branding and business leader. He is the author of a number of books and is a sought-after conference speaker, podcast guest, and TV pundit (BBC World News).

    Having worked in senior leadership roles for a number of prestigious agency networks - including Saatchi & Saatchi, Design Bridge and Holmes & Merchant, his most recent corporate role was as Regional VP for the SGK group, leading 5 x multimillion-dollar agency offices across APAC.

    Steve now specialises in inclusive and universal design/branding, helping global businesses reach new untapped consumer markets, and working with innovative challengers/start-ups to scale.

    Steve is an Englishman that has spent the last 15 years living in South East Asia.

    He has led projects and teams across multiple markets including Singapore, Australia, the UK, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.

    He is married to a wonderful Canadian teacher, and his 2 small children describe themselves as ‘global’
